Keep a redneck on retainer – A country guide for city folk
Hello! My name is John Bushong.
Most of you know me from Buck Moore Feed, where I have spent my life as a source of country knowledge for those of you who live in the city. I grew up in my grandfather’s feed store in the heart of Austin, from the time I was knee high to a grasshopper up until 2017, when my father and I decided to close the store and move on to new endeavors.
My biggest concern with our closing was the spot that would leave our customers in. You see, Buck Moore Feed was not your typical retail store. You can go anywhere and buy the stuff you need. You can go to Amazon and have it sent to your doorstep these days, but where do you go to figure out what you need? Or, how to solve a problem without buying anything? Or, why your animals are acting in a certain way? Or, what to do when they’re sick or hurt? Are you going to go down to the closest box store and get advice from the high school kid working there? Or you could spend hours upon hours combing through forums and web pages where the advice ranges from flat out neglect to crazytown complicated? That’s where we come in.
We’ve spent our lives doing this. Solving problems at work for our customers and tending our own homesteads when we’re not at work. We’ve spent 45 years helping people with their urban homesteads and back yard animals, and I felt like, in closing the store, I was abandoning them. I wanted to find a way for the spirit of Buck Moore Feed to live on… For the spirit of my grandfather to live on through the friendly customer service he was always famous for… And this is my solution. Patreon.
Patreon is a crowd funding web site that will allow me to continue to provide help and advice through monthly monetary support from my customers. As busy as everyone is these days, time is money. How much is your time worth to you? And what are your animals worth to you? My goal is to provide my own “keep it simple” opinions to help you save time, energy, and money. And, if I don’t know the answer to your question, I am plugged into a whole network of country folk who have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. My hope is that my advice will empower you to find solutions that you can accomplish yourself, just like I’ve always done, but without the restrictions that come with being tied to a retail storefront.
Thank you for all the trust and support you have placed with us over the years, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Y’all have a great day!
Let me be your guide
